Michael Seres was diagnosed aged 12 with the incurable bowel condition Crohn's disease. In late 2011 he became the 11th person to undergo a small bowel transplant in the UK at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford. He started blogging about his journey through bowel transplantation. His blog has over 95,000 followers, and he uses social media to develop global on line peer to peer communities covering more than 20,000 patients. He devises social media strategies around patient engagement. Michael mentors patients and their families and is a published author and professional speaker. He is the patient lead for #NHSSM, a facilitator for the Centre for Patient Leadership, and digital strategy adviser to the Patients' Association and Oxford Transplant Foundation. Seres is a patient leader involved in creating and implementing patient engagement strategies via digital technologies. He is also the inventor of the Ostomy sensor known as Ostom-i™ Alert Sensor and is founder of 11Health.
