In the Netherlands, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport has opted for more control over interoperability in the Netherlands. A program has been set up by the Minister to speed up the exchange of data between care professionals for ten priority care processes. To determine which care processes the Ministry should start with, public consultations were organized where everyone was invited to present a usecase that qualifies for priority. Many have responded to this and 13 priority care processes have been selected from these oral and written consultations. Nictiz has been involved in this Data Exchange Program from the start. On the basis of the Acute Care usecase: transfer of Ambulance to the Emergency Department, Conchita Hofstede, Manager Expertise Center Nictiz explains what the approach is, what challenges there are and what solutions are envisaged to achieve the acceleration of interoperability in the Netherlands. Healthcare and IT professionals from different European countries are cordially invited to think along with (proven) strategies that are helpful in the acceleration.
